Well, here we are at the beginning of a new year – 2018.
A lot of people take a new year as an opportunity to make changes in their life – quitting bad habits; starting good habits; building better relationships with family and friends; or just generally, “turning over a new leaf”. Resolutions are made in an effort to make the new year different – hopefully better – than the previous year. Certainly a new year is a good opportunity to do some personal evaluation, and positive changes are always a good thing.
One of the areas many people fail to consider or evaluate is their spiritual life, yet it is so important. After all, it was Jesus who gave us life, and it is He who offers us eternal, abundant life, so it makes sense to give serious consideration to our relationship with Him. He wants to have a personal, meaningful relationship with us, and has done His part to make that possible.
We encourage you to get a Bible and begin reading the New Testament in the gospel of John. John wrote that book specifically so that people could know Who Jesus is, believe in Him, and receive His offer of everlasting life (see John 20:30-31). In John’s gospel, you will read about Jesus and see His great love for people, including you and I. John 3:16 is undoubtedly the best known Bible verse, For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. Now that’s good news to start the year with!
